I personally really wanted to have 16 drum pads.įor *me* I don't like how the drum pads are way to the left on the Code 61 cause I use them all the time. Overall I don't think there's really a "best" though, there's multiple controllers that would probably work for you depending on your exact requirements. I must have gotten a defective unit though because it was pretty buggy and the build quality and layout wasn't as great. I had the Arturia Keylab 61 before the Akai. That's the keyboard I own and absolutely love. I tend to use it live as a controller that I am prepared to move around much more.Īt first glance the code 61 looks similar to the Akai MPK261 (minus the X/Y pad). I have an older Axiom 61 and it has also been a reliable workhorse and I adapt to the action whenever I play it. It depends a little on how you intend to use the controller and to what extent the keyboard feel will impact on your decision.
Then again you may end up using a lot the features on the Code 61 and be very happy with the keyboard action too. Some may prefer a fully weighted action and that can be a big thing too. My Kurzweil PC3K has a way nicer feel in terms of the synth action so it may come down to that as you are playing it a lot so therefore I find the action to be pretty important. Although the MAudio has the waterfall keys and looks nice for me I am not a huge fan of the keyboard action itself. The X/Y pad may be wonderful for some but others may never use it etc.įor me personally the actual feel of the keybed itself is a big one for me. I think it comes down to the features that are really going to suit you and your workflow. The Code 61 looks pretty cool and offers lots of features. There is no best keyboard to use a controller for Studio One only the one that you know and like the most.
